National Nurse’s Week

#NursesWeek

In honor of National Nurse’s Week, MEDspiration would like to give a huge shoutout to all past, present, and future nurses!

Here is a short message from our CFO/ Treasurer & also Registered Nurse, Nick Greathouse:

What does it mean to be a Nurse?

According to Webster’s Dictionary, a nurse is: A person who cares for the sick or infirm.

To be a nurse is much more. We teach, advocate, encourage, comfort, and have the ability to recognize declining patients. We are often times the voice of our patients when they cannot speak or when they are fearful of what is to come. As Florence Nightingale said, “How very little can be done under the spirit of fear.” In order for a patient to make progress, they need not be fearful. Many patients look to their nurse to provide comfort and gentle touch during what may be their weakest moment. The American Nurses Association has themed Nurse’s Week 2017 as: “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.” Nurses exemplify the very standard of values and principles that MEDspiration was founded upon.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year.

The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896.

As a nurse myself, I want to personally thank each and every nurse that I have crossed paths with. It is inspiring to see the work that is done each and every day, whether it is being at the bedside, lobbying at the State Capitol for safe staffing ratios or implementing Evidence-Based Practice to improve patient outcomes. Many times I find myself in awe of just how selfless these individuals are. As a Nurse once told me, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in others.”

It is our hope to continue to support the educational and spiritual growth of healthcare workers in all disciplines, including nursing.

On behalf of the entire MEDspiration Board of Directors, Happy National Nurse’s Week to all of our Nurse followers.
