Positivity and the Heart

The heart, like the brain, generates a powerful electromagnetic field. In 1963, scientists by the name of Baule and McFee published a recording of the first human magnetocardiogram. They obtained these recordings by using two large induction coils, each consisting of two million windings, positioned over the chest. These measurements provided better spatial resolution than electrical current monitoring because they were not distorted by flow through the tissues because the body is transparent to low frequency magnetic fields. The discovery of this cardio-electromagnetic field raises the question of whether the information in this field transmitted from an individual who is angry, fearful, depressed or experiencing other negative emotions, takes on beneficial properties when it is influenced by positive emotions. It is believed that through the use of tools and technologies that foster positive emotions such as practicing gratitude, yoga, exercising and doing things that make you happy, and the psychophysiological coherence – a state when the heart, mind and emotions are in energetic alignment and cooperation; individuals can effectively initiate a re-patterning process, whereby habitual emotional patterns underlying stress are replaced with newer, healthier patterns. Creating such habits can establish increased emotional stability, mental acuity, and physiological efficiency as a new familiar baseline or norm. This may help to explain why individuals who exercise more often and partake in stress-relieving activities can experience a change in resting heart rate.
