The Master Gland

#MindBodySpirit

In this video, Dr. Shane Tubbs, PH.D., PA-C gives us a clear visual of the optic chiasm & pituitary gland! The optic chiasm is the connection between our brain and our eyes, while the pituitary gland (which is about the size of a pea & is located just behind the bridge of our nose) is responsible for releasing & controlling several hormone glands in our body! The pituitary gland is often called ’the master gland’ as the hormones secreted from it help to control many functions! These functions include: our physical growth (through Growth Hormone); blood pressure (through Adrenocorticotropic hormone); certain functions of our sex organs (through Follicle Simulating Hormone & Luteinizing Hormone); our thyroid gland function (through Thyroid Stimulating Hormone); and metabolism as well as some aspects of pregnancy, child-birth, breastfeeding & pain relief (through Oxytocin); and water/salt concentration within the kidneys (via – vasopressin or anti-diuretic hormone)! Our psychological well-being is believed to play a role in this gland’s function as our mental health & internal dialogue can affect our eating habits, metabolism & digestion, physical activity levels, stress levels & even our ability to fight off infections! These connections between our psychological, endocrinological & immunological function suggest that our mental, physical & spiritual health may be linked to our perspective of life & influenced by the quality of our thoughts each second! With this in mind, let’s make the intentions to create a balance between these hormonal axes through practicing focused positive thinking! It all begins with just one positive thought!
